Mistakes to avoid when installing a panoramic

Installing panoramic wallpaper is easy when you are well prepared and organized. In this article you will find tips to avoid wasting time or failing to install your magnificent wall decoration.
⏱ Reading time: 5 minutes

1. Before installing your mural

Getting the dimensions of your wall wrong

Essential to planning the right amount of panoramic wallpaper for your wall, it is important to take the correct wall dimensions.
To ensure you take your correct measurements, get a tape measure, and don't hesitate to take the height of your wall in several places (start and end of your wall to be wallpapered). Ceilings are not always perfectly straight, if you take different measurements, choose to order the largest dimension.
In case you made a mistake in your measurements, you risk ending up with part of your wall uncovered; and unfortunately in this case, we will not be able to reprint any continuity of your panoramic fresco.

Why, you might ask?

For three obvious reasons:
The continuity of the design of your panoramic fresco does not exist, no connection could be ensured between the first print and the second, then a difference in bath between the two wallpapers not printed at the same time can be distinguished. So, to your meters!

Paste wallpaper without preparing your wall

The urgent need to put up your new wallpaper gives you crazy ideas! So crazy in fact that you want to switch the step of preparing your wall. We agree with you, it could be tempting. However, not preparing your wall before wallpapering it is a very big mistake, even if, visually, you have the impression that you have nothing to do.
Neglecting to prepare your wall for hanging wallpaper is like inviting your wallpaper to tear or peel off prematurely. That would be a real shame. So, take a few moments, lightly sand your wall, clean it with a damp microfiber cloth, and paint it a light, even color.

If you have applied paint before installing your panoramic wallpaper, it is advisable to allow 2 weeks for it to dry.

Choosing the wrong wallpaper glue

Just as there are different types of wallpaper, there are also different types of glue. Each glue has its own specificities and characteristics to properly perform its function, depending on the wallpaper chosen.

Cellulose glue is mainly suitable for lightweight woven wallpapers, with double gluing. Vinyl wallpaper glue is particularly recommended for vinyl non-woven wallpapers, which are heavy and embossed wallpapers. This glue is much more resistant, given the characteristics of vinyl wallpaper.

Then there is the glue for non-woven wallpaper. This glue is distinguished by its ease of use: no need for double gluing, just gluing to the wall is sufficient.
Ultimately, choosing the right glue for your wallpaper is essential, otherwise your panoramic wallpaper may not stick to your wall, despite your efforts and your application. Our image advice ->

Your feedback, our best showcase

"On the advice of our decorator @manoa_deco_ we chose the red cable car wallpaper. It gives depth to our living room. The result is very beautiful and realistic. Easy to install. We are very satisfied!"

Isabelle

"The wallpaper is exactly what I was looking for, and brings a touch of good humor to the room. Too bad it is now partly hidden by the headboard. A suggestion: add characters in the cabins. The installation was relatively easy, and the paper is of good quality"

Jean Pierre

"Another project with mural concept is always the same success. I thank you all and the design team"

2. While installing your panoramic

Start installing the panoramic wallpaper from the middle of the wall

Wallpaper in rolls, patterned or plain, is laid more regularly; its installation is really different from that of panoramic wallpaper.
Panoramic wallpapers, unlike standard wallpapers, have a beginning and an end. The installation must absolutely be done from left to right, like the reading direction of a sentence.
The strips of panoramic wallpaper are numbered to avoid any errors.

Hang your wallpaper based on the verticality of your wall angle

The walls of our homes are never straight. Even if they are new, the probability that the level of the angle of your wall is exactly 90° is extremely low. When you put up your panoramic wallpaper, it is imperative to draw a pencil line along your wall level, even better to use a laser meter, and it is almost the one that does all the work to ensure the top of the verticality. Like this, you will be 100% sure that your panoramic wallpaper will be put up correctly and straight!
It is also highly recommended to check in the middle of the installation that the verticality of the installation is still good. A single millimeter of offset is enough to reach the last strip, the pattern does not connect. Certain patterns such as intense foliage, or very geometric patterns are very demanding in terms of installation.

Not putting enough glue on your wall

The step before hanging your wallpaper is to paste the wall. We advise you to check that you have put glue everywhere, and in quantity. In the event that you have not put enough glue, you will see air bubbles appear when you paste your strip that you will not be able to remove. Also, insufficient pasting can cause the strips of wallpaper to shrink.

Do not clean your wallpaper during or after installation

Thorough cleaning of your panoramic wallpaper is necessary during and at the end of your installation. Indeed, it should not be forgotten that wallpaper glue is composed of chemicals, which may damage your wallpaper and discolor the ink. These stains, occurring after the glue has dried, are irreversible.

So don't hesitate to clean your wallpaper well around the perimeter of your wall, between the strips, and at the level of the projections if this is the case, so that your wallpaper is in perfect condition once your installation is finished.

Putting up wallpaper during hot weather

Multiple factors must be taken into account when installing your panoramic wallpaper, including one essential: the outside temperature, and the temperature of your room. Even if sometimes, the installation date agreed between you or with your craftsman, we do not advise you to install your wallpaper during very hot weather. This may seem surprising, however, the temperature of your room will have a very big impact on the hold of your wallpaper. In the case of very hot weather, the glue put on the wall will dry faster, and the pasting of your wallpaper may lose quality. Even if a wallpaper is stuck instantly to the wall thanks to the liquid glue, its setting in glue still counts a few hours.
